Key takeaways
- Apartment amenity vending gives residents snacks and cold drinks 24/7, without a trip to the store.
- The best spots are where residents already pass: the clubhouse, lobby, fitness center or mailroom.
- For qualifying communities, the machine, stocking, service and repairs cost $0, and your leasing team never has to touch it.
- Residents request products and report issues by scanning a QR code, so nothing routes through the office.
The amenity residents notice every day
Most community amenities get used in bursts. The pool fills up on summer weekends. The business center sees a few people a week. A well stocked machine in the right spot gets used every day, at every hour.
That matters in Las Vegas, where a lot of residents work nights, early mornings or swing shifts on the Strip and in hospitals, warehouses and casinos. Someone getting home at 3 a.m. after a long shift does not want to drive back out for a cold drink. Having one downstairs is a small thing that residents remember.
It also helps with the everyday picture of your community. A clean, modern machine in the clubhouse reads as a property that pays attention to details. A dusty, cash-only unit with a handwritten “out of order” sign reads the opposite. We cover the resident side of this in more depth in why a 24/7 snack amenity helps Las Vegas apartments keep residents happy.
Where to put it: four spots that work
Placement decides whether a machine becomes a favorite or gets ignored. Look for places residents already walk past, that are well lit and that stay accessible after the office closes.
Clubhouse
The clubhouse is the most common choice because it is central and usually open long hours. If your clubhouse is fob-controlled after hours, that is fine. It actually helps keep the machine for residents.
Lobby
In mid-rise and podium buildings, the main lobby or elevator landing gets the most foot traffic. Residents pass it every time they come and go, and so do guests.
Fitness center
Water, sports drinks and protein snacks sell well next to the gym, especially in the summer. If you want ideas on stocking for that crowd, see what gym members actually buy.
Mailroom or package room
With deliveries arriving all day, the package room has become one of the busiest spots in many communities. A machine there catches residents on a trip they were already making.
Tip: Whatever spot you pick, plan for about 4 by 4 feet of floor space near a standard 110V outlet. Avoid placing a machine where it blocks an ADA path or a fire exit, and keep it out of direct afternoon sun through a west-facing window.
No cost and no staff time
Property managers already juggle leasing, renewals, maintenance requests and vendor schedules. An amenity that adds work for the leasing office is not much of an amenity.
For qualifying communities, Stellar provides the machine, delivery, installation, stocking, service and repairs at $0. Your team does not order product, handle cash, count inventory or schedule restocks. Machines report stock and sales live, so restocking is planned from real data, and busy locations are typically serviced 2-3 times per week.
When something goes wrong, our local team is on site within 24 hours of a report. Many issues show up on our end through remote monitoring before a resident ever mentions them. If you are wondering how this compares to buying your own machine, our post on free vending placement vs. buying your own machine lays out the tradeoffs.
Resident requests and refunds via QR code
The fastest way for vending to turn into a maintenance ticket is a lost dollar with no clear way to get it back. Residents end up at the leasing desk, and your team ends up apologizing for a vendor they do not control.
Every Stellar machine has a QR code. Residents scan it to request a product, report a problem or ask for a refund. Refunds go back to the card or phone they used, and we never ask for card numbers. There is also a report an issue form online. Your office stays out of the loop unless you want to be in it.
Product requests are just as useful. If residents keep asking for a certain energy drink or a gluten-free snack, they can tell us directly, and we adjust the lineup based on those requests and on sales.

Smart coolers for grab-and-go
For larger communities, a standard snack and drink machine is only one option. Smart coolers are glass-door fridges that open with a card tap. Cameras see what is taken, and residents are charged only for what they grab. They can hold salads, fresh meals, fruit and cold drinks, which makes them a good fit for busy residents who want something more than chips.
Fresh items are rotated 2-3 times per week and the temperature is monitored remotely. If you are deciding between options, read smart cooler vs. vending machine and micro market vs. smart cooler. Both walk through which setup tends to fit which kind of space.
