Hotel vending in Las Vegas: guest floors, lobbies and the back-of-house breakroom

Guests want a late-night drink, staff want a real meal between shifts. Here is how to plan hotel vending for every part of the property.
Hotel vending in Las Vegas: guest floors, lobbies and the back-of-house breakroom

Key takeaways

  • A hotel has three vending audiences: guests on the floors, guests in the lobby and pool areas, and staff in the back of house.
  • Guests expect to tap a card or phone. A cash-only machine on a guest floor reads as neglect.
  • Smart coolers can turn a lobby corner into a fresh grab-and-go spot without staffing a counter.
  • Qualifying properties get machines, stocking, service and repairs at $0, with no long-term contract.

Hotels never close, and neither does demand

Las Vegas hotels run on a clock that ignores normal hours. Guests land late, come back from a show after midnight, or wake up early for a flight. Staff cover every hour of the day, from housekeeping and engineering to security and the front desk.

That makes vending more than a nice extra. When the restaurant is closed and the gift shop has shut its doors, the machine down the hall is the only thing open. Whether it is stocked and working says a lot about how the property is run.

Zone 1: guest floors

The classic hotel machine sits in the ice alcove or by the elevators. Guests stopping there want a few simple things:

  • Cold drinks: water, sodas, sports drinks, energy drinks and sparkling water. In a desert city, water alone justifies the machine.
  • Late-night snacks: chips, candy, cookies and a few better-for-you options like nuts and protein bars.
  • Something more filling for guests who missed dinner, where the space allows it.

A glass-front drink machine and a snack machine side by side usually cover a guest floor. On smaller properties, a single combo machine on alternating floors or near the main elevator bank can work.

Guest floor tip: Guests come from everywhere and carry every kind of card and phone wallet. Make sure each machine takes tap-to-pay, chip cards, Apple Pay and Google Pay. A guest who cannot pay at the machine calls the front desk, and now it is your problem.

Zone 2: lobby, pool and common areas

This is where looks matter most. A dated machine in a modern lobby stands out for the wrong reasons. Custom-wrapped machines and smart coolers can match the look of the space instead of fighting it.

A smart cooler is a glass-door fridge that opens with a card tap. Cameras see what a guest takes, and they are charged only for what they take. That makes it a strong fit for lobbies, pool entries and extended-stay properties, because it can hold salads, fresh meals, fruit and cold drinks without a staffed counter. If you are considering a larger self-serve setup, our comparison of micro market vs. smart cooler lays out the tradeoffs.

Zone 3: the back-of-house breakroom

This is the zone that often gets forgotten, and it may matter most. Hotel staff work long shifts at every hour, and many cannot leave the property on a break. The employee dining room may not cover every shift, and the overnight team often has the fewest options of all.

A good back-of-house setup includes real food from a smart cooler, plus snacks and cold drinks that hold up through an overnight shift. Properties can also make some items free or discounted for staff and be billed monthly, which is an easy way to support the team without running a food program. The same thinking shows up in our post on feeding the night shift at hospitals and clinics, since the challenges are very similar.

What to ask a hotel vending company

  1. How do you know when a machine on the top floor is empty? If the answer is a weekly walk-through, guests will find empty coils first.
  2. Who handles guest refunds? Your front desk should not be giving out cash for stuck snacks.
  3. How fast are repairs? A dead machine on a guest floor is a complaint waiting to happen.
  4. Can the machines match our property? Ask about wraps and modern, touchscreen units.
  5. What is the contract? Traditional vending companies often lock properties into long terms. Our post on modern vs. traditional vending companies covers what to watch for.

How Stellar handles hotel vending

Stellar Vending is a locally owned Las Vegas company. Our hotel vending setup is built for properties that run all day and all night.

  • Free for qualifying properties. Most locations with 50 or more people on-site daily qualify, and we confirm within one business day. Machines, delivery, installation, stocking, service and repairs are $0.
  • Remote monitoring on every machine. Each one reports stock and sales live, so restocking is planned from real data. Busy locations are typically serviced 2 to 3 times per week.
  • Fresh food done right. Items in our smart coolers are rotated 2 to 3 times per week, with temperature monitored remotely.
  • Refunds without the front desk. Guests and staff scan the QR code on the machine or use our Report an Issue form. Refunds go back to the card or phone they used, and we never ask for card numbers.
  • Repairs within 24 hours of a report, from our local team.
  • A clean, modern look. Touchscreen machines and custom wraps that fit the property.
  • No long-term contract. The placement agreement can be ended with 30 days’ notice.

Already working with another operator? We can plan a smooth swap timed to when your current agreement ends. Our guide on how to switch vending companies without a gap in service walks through it, and the facility manager’s guide to hands-off vending covers day-to-day expectations.

We serve hotels across the valley, from properties near the Strip in Paradise to off-Strip and extended-stay hotels along the 215 in southwest Las Vegas and Henderson.

Where to start

Walk the property at an odd hour. Check what a guest finds by the elevators, what is in the lobby after the restaurant closes, and what the overnight crew has in the breakroom. Most hotels find at least one zone that is underserved. If you want to talk it through, read our FAQ or get in touch with our local team.
